National Nuclear Laboratory

Background - The National Nuclear Laboratory is the new organisation created by the government to develop the skills and technology to support the growing nuclear industry now and for the future.

It is becoming an international centre of research and development, providing customers with tailored solutions by applying the appropriate level of technical innovation and intellectual support.

It is born out of what was Nexia Solutions Ltd, a leading nuclear industry organization in this field.

The NNL provides nuclear technology services across the full nuclear fuel cycle and develops expertise across diverse science and engineering disciplines.

Brief - To position the NNL as an international centre of excellence in nuclear research and development, particularly in developing skills and technology and to give the role of the NNL context as the UK nuclear industry expands.

Activity - A programme of regional and national media relations to make the NNL a natural point of reference for authoritative commentary including visits to site, Briefings and media material.

This is supported by a programme of Public Affairs including Briefings and visits to site to help share an understanding of the issues at Government level.

Results - Widespread reportage and coverage including reports in heavyweight national tv and press, regional and trade media.

Additionally, a growing awareness amongst stakeholders of the significance and role being played by the NNL and its employees.

'This programme is helping us to put the NNL on the map for the media and other stakeholders. We are now going from strength to strength'

- Mandy Mayor, National Nuclear Laboratory
